Abstract
Diet and nutrition are two components that influence oral health and can affect the development or prevention of oral disease. It is widely known that carbohydrates mainly sugar and starch promote the demineralization of dental hard tissue and cause dental caries. Therefore, the study was done to evaluate the association between diet score and dental caries. This retrospective study was conducted using University hospital patient records from July 2019 - March 2020. A total of 129 case sheets containing 24-hour diet chart scores and Decayed, Missing and Filled teeth (DMFT) scores were retrieved & analyzed. Results were present with frequency distribution and chi-square test for association. The present study reported that there was no statistically significant association between diet score and dental caries (p>0.05). There was also no statistically significant association between gender and dental caries in which dental caries was prevalent in males (p>0.05). Nevertheless, a significant association was found between age and dental caries in which dental caries was prevalent in 10-30 years age (p<0.05). Within the limitations of the study, it can be concluded that there was no statistically significant association between diet score with dental caries.
