Abstract
Majority of dentists in India are private practitioners. Due to the pandemic in COVID-19, usage of Personal Protective Equipments(PPE) in their daily clinical practice has become even more crucial. Personal protective equipment comprises masks or respirators, gloves, face shields, gowns, goggles etc. The primary use of personal protective equipment is to protect the clinician, patients and the assistants from getting contamination from blood, saliva, infectious diseases and any mechanical trauma. Personal protective equipment has become the need of the hour due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Hence it is even more crucial for the clinician to use a proper personal protective equipment for the safety of their patients and themselves. The aim of the study is to assess the knowledge, practice and awareness regarding personal protective equipment amongst dental surgeons having private dental clinics in India. A web based questionnaire consisting of 23 questions including demographics, knowledge assessment and practice management of personal protective equipment usage. The results obtained were tabulated and graphically represented using IBM SPSS version 20 software. 97.2% practitioners were aware of the PPE, donning of PPE was known by 88.6% respondents. 92.1% people knew the contents of a PPE kit. PPE is called personal protective equipment. It helps protect clinicians from body fluids, blood and injuries. The study was conducted in order to assess the knowledge, attitude and perception of usage of PPE among dental surgeons having their private clinical practice. It was found that dental surgeons were well aware of usage and advantages of PPE.
